DEAD TO ME

Background

The Me Too movement was a point of no return. Survivors of sexual violence were no longer going to be silent. Dead to Me is a compilation of stories, essays, and poems written by survivors and leaders of the movement. The intention of this book is to empower people to confront and ostracize the evils of sexual violence.

This project was important to me because I strongly believe in visual communication as a way to lift up the voices of survivors and call out what we can no longer accept in our world.

Strategy

Dead to Me is divided into four sections, each representing a different stage of emotional response and healing. The writings are organized into these sections based on the stage that the author was writing it from or about.

Identity

The ugliness and discomfort of sexual violence is told through bold color, reversed imagery, and large line heights. This starkly contrasts with the black and white portraits of the survivors and movement leaders.

In healing, survivors and allies confront the perpetrators and hold them accountable for their actions. Sharing these stories is an effective way to build on the collective movement of those who can relate to and those who can empathize with survivors.
